Narcissy

You look into the water
See a mirror of yourself
You fall in love with what you see right there
You’ve no time for someone else

You spend your life in adoration
of the wonder that you are
and if others do not see it?
Then it’s they who must bear the scars

No-one dare to criticise you
For criticism you won’t take
You rage and roar and scream at them
At the suggestion of your mistake

Don’t they know that you are perfect?
You have never done anything wrong
But should they err for just one moment
You cut them out,and they are gone

and should they struggle, should they fail
No sympathy have you
You can’t empathise with anyone
It’s not something that you do

You can’t look into the water
Beyond the mirror of yourself
and see that there behind you
lives the world of someone else

all those lives surrounding you
which don’t dance to your own tune
are worth every bit as much as you
They all share the self same moon

And in the shades there standing
Beyond the vision of your gaze
lie the gravestones of loves departed
that have long gone left your page

No one can love and live with you
No one can stand the pace
No one can love you quite enough
as you must love your space

I weep for you Narcissy
with great sadness in my heart
To have lived a life so empty
And lonely from the start

To know there is no hope for you
Beyond the shallows that you feel
and the love you crave from someone else
Your self love will always steal
