Balls of steel

I walked out the hotel kitchen door
On the coldest night of winter
too cold for snow
my breath to freeze
it made my body shiver
The night was dark
the nights were long
as I walked out for a cigarette
Into the dark alleyway
where broken cardboards kept
The manager in his office
said somethings going on down there!
near the skip I’m hearing sounds

I’m camping by the lochside
Beside the loch of snails
this is the place where they made their home
And that’s it’s Gaelic name
I’m camping by the lochside
In the middle of July
The night is clear
and the stars are bright
carpeting the sky
The moon lies low beside me
I could nearly walk across
the loch is like a mirror
