Looking Backwards to Look Forwards

I was thinking about Yesterday
and the people we’ve become
It all seems so far away
From the place where we came from

My mind travels along that road
Slipping through the years
Some scenes play in my mind
Some of laughter,Some of tears

Faces that I recall,
and places I have been
Lovers Come and Gone
With a Myriad of Dreams

Then I come back In to Today
And I look around this Place
And think I’m Happy, Yes I know
Content in my own space

Regrets I’ve had a few
Like in the old Sinatra song
But I’ve done it My own Way
Got things right and Got things Wrong

I have done so many things
I have travelled around the World
A leaf skipping in the Wind
Dreaming about some girl

But all thats come and gone
I’ve had knocks along the way
Rolled some punches,took some blows
Dropped on my knees and prayed

But I got back on my feet
Every Single time
Brushed Lifes Mud off my Coat
and began again to climb

Some lessons I’ve never learned
I guess I never wanted to
I have had the smile wiped off my face
fresh tears with the morning dew

But I’ve risen above all that
never ever giving In
You’ve got to enter Life to Win it
Before Death bites you with its sting

But no matter how bad it gets
The rocks and boulders in your road
You’ve got to keep right moving On
Keep carrying your load

Sure, Rest a while and take a break
We all need that sometimes
Enjoy the fun and pain of it
keep life fresh within your mind

For every adverse situation
Just take it all on board
learn all the things you’ve got to learn
then learn to let it go

Pick up all your broken pieces
stick on the elastoplast
put the smile back on your face
and let go of your painful past

The road set out before you
Has still a bit to go
and you’ll see laughter, you’ll see tears
and thats the way life goes

So enjoy your laughter, enjoy your fun
Enjoy the Love that you have got
Empty out your Fears and bitter tears
for they help you not a lot

There are still some years to run in
So make them all the best you can
For once we leave this Mortal Coil
No longer in this place we’ll stand

So take your lover by the hand
As you look to that distant shore
Enjoy your time upon this beach
As your tide comes in once more.
